The Aeolian Islands are a group of islands in the north of Sicily, a few miles away from the town of Milazzo. It is an archipelago, consisting of 7 islands of volcanic origin, particularly popular for both short and longer vacations.
Thanks to its wonderful beaches, breathtaking views and unspoiled natural landscapes, the Aeolian Islands became a full-fledged World Heritage Site back in 2000.
Such wealth cannot help but attract many people each year, resulting in a truly impressive flow of tourists. There are many, in fact, who decide, for example, to visit beautiful Sicily and then embark on ferries to the Aeolian Islands.
To meet the increasing request for connections to the Aeolian Islands, several shipping companies have organized to offer departures from different locations. These crossings are guaranteed throughout the year, both from the port of Milazzo, but also from Messina and Naples.
Departures are usually organized during both daytime and nighttime hours in order to offer passengers a wider range of choices. Especially during the peak season, the number of crossings is even increased to accommodate the increased flow of visitors. On this occasion, you can also choose to depart from other locations, such as Palermo, Sapri, Mergellina and Reggio Calabria.
The duration of the sailing, of course, depends on the area from which you intend to depart. For example, one of the most popular routes is the one connecting Milazzo to Lipari. In this case, the average journey time is around 50 minutes on average, and ships sail at periodic times.
Indicatively, the first departure is around 7 a.m., with repeated other runs until about 7 p.m.
Ticket prices to the Aeolian Islands vary depending both on the season and the company chosen, but also on the location of departure. Taking into consideration the Milazzo Lipari route, the average price should be around 15 euros per person.
It is possible to bring pets and extra luggage on board, paying any surcharges provided by the shipping company, as well as cars, of course. However, access to the latter is limited and restricted during busy periods.
Each of the Aeolian Islands is, of course, provided with a port that connects them both with each other, but also with other important locations. Certainly, the most frequent connections are with Sicily, which is only a few nautical miles away from the archipelago.
For example, the port of Milazzo, from which many ferries depart for the Aeolian Islands, has a particularly strategic location, which has made it crucial for trade and connections in northern Sicily. To this day, in fact, it is considered a true hub, as well as very characteristic.
